UPDATE - FULL NAMES OF THE MEN .......

Just a quick update to let you all know that the research is now progressing really well............

I now have 3 files bursting with information on our 85 brave men.

Up to now I have used the following resources to enable me to identify the men from the initial and surname given on the memorial-

*www.cwgc.org Commonwealth War Grave Commission for dates of death and memorial place - to cross reference with .....

*www.ancestry.co.uk for service records, medal cards and a list of soldiers who died in the great war, census returns, birth and marriage details.

*www.findmypast.co.uk for service records, navy records and census returns.

*Chesterfield Local Studies Library - for mentions in the local newspaper The Derbyshire Times.  From this newspaper I have been lucky enough to obtain some photos of some of the men, but it would be nice to find family who have copies of the originals.

My next step will be a check of the absent voters list which is held at the Derbyshire Archives at Matlock and from there I want to piece together family connections and dates using the parish registers for New Whittington Churches; both St Barnabas and St Bartholomew.

Here is a list of the names that I have identified so far only eight more to identify -
